Up Close And Personal
Your Mind Can Make It Happen
Do you believe you have what it takes to cope with life? The answer to this question is more important than you may think. Do you believe there is a reason for you being here? Humans don’t just show up on Planet Earth. I, along with millions of others, believe there is a plan in force. To find our individual part takes searching, planning and believing in our self. Until we find our place, we are restless, looking, watching, and longing for more of whatever it is.
Les Brown is one of the best motivational speakers on the subject of being all you can be. He is an excellent person to stress this positive thought because of overcoming his own unique set of circumstances. He was adopted as a young boy, by a woman who saw his potential. At an early age, he was declared “retarded” by one of his teachers. Thank goodness for teachers that seek out those who have succumb to negative experiences during early formative years. He has never forgotten Mr. Washington, his school teacher, who told him never to listen to negative words again. He told him to go out and be all he could be. And Les Brown did just that. Today he is a highly sought after motivational speaker, doing his part to change lives for the better. One of his favorite words is persistence. I quote him here in an article he wrote on that word.
“I believe there are three kinds of people. There are winners, who know what they want and understand their potential and the possibilities. They take life on. Next are losers, who don’t have a clue as to who they are. They allow circumstances to shape their lives and their self-image.
I believe there is a third group as well. This group consists of potential winners whose lives are just slightly out of alignment. I call them wayward winners. It may be that they just need to learn how to be real winners. Perhaps they’ve hit a bump or two that has knocked them off course and they are temporarily befuddled. A failed relationship, a lost job, financial problems, unformed goals, a lack of parental support, illness…many things can send us off course temporarily.
Wayward winners are not lost souls; they just need some tweaking and coaching and nudging to get them back on course. Many of these wayward winners are easily identifiable because they are always searching.”
Mr. Brown would tell you time and again that success in life begins in the mind. You must believe in yourself. This mean going against negative thoughts that are forever there for us to deal with. When negative thinking creeps in, it is imperative that constructive thoughts replace the negative immediately. The negative thought will try again to enter the mind. Again, replace it with a positive one. It’s a similar situation as having two pictures placed before you and constantly you have to choose which one you want to focus on. With persistence you can teach your mind to go with the positive and discard the negative. When there is resistance to this new way of thinking, don’t give up. Keep thinking of the beneficial, good and happy thoughts you know to be true. Your mind is a powerful tool to be used for your benefit!
