What's A Body To Do?
Our world has changed dramatically from two years ago, even a year ago. Though some underpriviledged countries would not agree with us, times are hard for Americans. Job security is down, the stock market is not stable, the future seems uncertain. Even before these things came into play, people were searching for answers. Depression is an often treated ailment. Our local and national news celebrities are not helping this drab picture by their constant detailed analysis of the situation. What are we to do?
There are some things we can do to help our frame of mind, our "stinking thinking." The above mentioned things will bring stress galore if we dwell on them. This in turn will manifest itself in one way or another as physical ailments, depression, weight gain or loss, bad attitudes. etc. So right now we have a choice of how we will get "through" this. Think about the suggestions below. They are tried and true ways to ease the pressure since there is not a lot we can do on a national level.
- Eat healthfully. Exercise consistently.
- Appreciate good health, determine to keep it that way.
- Keep your personal assets in mind. Yes, you do have some! Carry yourself with pride and dignity. That makes you attractive.
- Volunteer to serve at a soup kitchens or places where the community needs a helping hand. If you loose your job or have to change, companies look positively on those who are involved in community projects. That's to say nothing of what it does for you peronally.
- Don’t take in destructive messages, even when they are not directed at you. The message is out there that personal appearance is all that matters.
- Learn to pick up the subliminal cues so liberally offered by society and the media that we need this or that to be happy. It's NOT true.
- Cancel your subscription to magazines you don't have time to read. Recognize how out of touch with reality some of those messages are. Plus you can use the money for something else.
- Turn off the TV. Become a critic of what you see on television and in magazines.
- Do nice things for your body. Take a walk. Spend time with the kids. Make them walk with you! Have coffee with a friend. Both of you may need to unload!
- Re-think how you spend your time. Be a many-faceted person with priorities and good values. Write to your congressman! Do different things for entertainment rather than the same old, same old. Learn something new. (This is mind food and makes a difference as you grow older. It keeps brain pathways open!) Read books.
The above mentioned thoughts will not change the facts of your life. But it will change how you view them. Try it! I'm predicting you will see and feel a change.
