Picalilli
definition: a relish; to add flavor; to make appetizing; to add zest.
My husband lived in Chicago for eight years. Not long ago he mentioned the wonderful hotdogs he used to buy there that were loaded with lots of piccalilli. That was a new word for me. He told me about the savory relish made of chopped vegetables that made the hot dog taste like no other. My mouth watered as he spoke of it. I watched him smile and his eyes laugh, as he remembered that delicacy.
Richard's reminiscing made me think about how our life is filled with wonderful things that bring smiles to our faces just as his piccalilli experience. But have you noticed how life gets in the way of real living sometimes. We forget to notice the good things. Someone has said God gets irritated when we pass a field of purple wildflowers and it does not bring a smile to our face. If you think about it, the only reason the flowers are there is to make us smile.
We need to take nature breaks or people breaks and smile and feel and enjoy life. There are people around us that need a little dash of piccalilli when life gets them down. We make a difference with the right word at just the right moment. We can be the piccalilli that produces smiles just as my husband still smiles as he remembers the relish from long ago.

They might not need me, but they might;
I'll let my head be just in sight.
A smile as small as mine might be
Precisely their necessity.
