ODE  TO  HOPE

By Antje Hill

There it sits in my neighbor’s window

It’s been there for many a day.

But my mood is dragging and weary.

Now tell me, what makes me this way?

There’s fire in their souls that keeps shining.

There’s something that cheers them on.

Could it be the way of their mind set?

Is that what makes them so strong?

That word hope, I’ve been told, makes a difference.

It gives spirit and help for the day.

I wish it would perch in my window,

To help when I loose my way.

Ah, does my frame of mind  make the difference?

My thoughts guide me through the door.

There’s Hope sitting there at my table.

Help, Wisdom!  Show me more.

It sits there smiling and beckoning.

“Come, spend the day with me.”

As my mind seeks a higher level,

Hope settles in and weariness flees.

"This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will.
I can waste it or use it for good.  What I do today is important,
because I'm exchanging a day of my life for it.  When tomorrow comes,
this day will be gone
forever, leaving in its place something that I have traded for it.
I want it to be gain, not loss; good, not evil; success, not failure;
in order that I shall not regret the price I paid for it."
