Nature's Way

There has never been so many wonderful, luscious, mouth watering, calorie filled foods at our disposal.  Almost anywhere we go, there they are.  On every corner, we are faced with fried chicken, seafood, the biggest steaks,  baked goods to die for and ice creams.  What's a person to do?  I think it takes a person totally sold out to a life of health and vitality to make the change, someone that is motivated by something or someone  dear to them to vow to change.  It takes motivation from somewhere deep within.   A person in our family recently gave up smoking because of his great desire to see his grandchildren grow up.  Now that is a motivation that will not wear thin, when your glands start to salivate with your particular craving!

What's left if we don't partake of the goodies mentioned above? Lots of good things!  In one diet my husband and I tried a few years back, we had to give up potatoes, corn, anything with carbs. That even meant no bread! What a bummer!

After some serious study and education on the matter, we believe with all our hearts, you don't go wrong with plenty of fruits and vegetables.    We enjoy our potatoes now, only with salsa instead of butter and sour cream.  We eat plenty of lugumes - all kinds of beans, lentils, chickpeas, flavored with olive oil and peppercorns.  We even use them on our baked potato. Rice is something we are once again enjoying, only it is brown or wild rice now. The fiber is good for us and the nutrients have not been stripped from it.

Whole plants will furnish all the fat, protein and fiber our body needs.  They are much better for us and more economical than meat products. Our energy goes up and our health is promoted to a higher level.  These facts are becoming easier to find all the time, as more and more people are taking charge of their health. Bread is no longer a threat to our well being as we once thought. It's the kind we were eating that was wrong.  White flour is bad for us.  But we can indulge in whole wheat products and enjoy each delicious bite.

Eating a variety of  fruits is one of the best things we can do for our bodies. Fruit is easy and can be carried on trips for low calorie snacks. I am talking about fresh fruits, not dried or canned.  Read labels and you will see what I am talking about!

Eating too much fat and sugar makes us pay in the form of heart attacks, strokes and obesity. Get rid of your  fat tooth and your sweet tooth.  There are other delicious alternatives. It's just that we  have not  looked in a while and we have let the advertising world take over our thought processes.  We have become totally addicted to sugar.

For you and your family, think again before you shirk this subject off as just another silly  "January resolution".  It's never to late to do the right thing!
