Loving Your Body
I am sure you are wondering about the above title. That's the title of one of the sections in a new book my husband and I recently purchased. The book is "I Can Do This" Diet by Dr. Don Colbert. We watched an interview with this author a day or so ago and came to the conclusion that his knowledge was worth the price of the book. It is loaded with information and I am happy to say he covers some of the things mentioned on this website, namely, our thought life.
Dr. Colbert's writing on loving yourself caught my eye and I felt it was worth mentioning here. I have mentioned on this site how important it is to like yourself, but have never put it together with problems of dieting. This book is about learning about foods and thoughts and how they can sabotage your well intended plans to be healthy.
Dr. Colbert says, "I strongly recommend that you accept your body, forgive your body, and love your body - and that you do this every single day. Why all the self-love, even if you do not think it is possible? I have been treating overweight patients for more than twenty-five years, and I have come to realize that their negative programming completely sabotages their weight loss." In other words he says their subconscious has already assured them that they do not want to lose weight. Their dislike for themselves makes them not want to do any thing good for their body. If this sounds strange to you, study the subconscious. What a mind we have, including the subconscious!
Dr. Colbert points out that in Psalm 139:14 we are described as being "fearfully and wonderfully made". Who are we to question that statement? So health wise, it is a good thing to work on at least liking ourself during the New Year, working up to the loving part!
Negative thoughts are the culprit to many things that go wrong with us. There are multitudes of books written on this subject. Dr. Colbert goes on to say, "Every time a negative thought enters their (a dieting person) mind, they automatically punch a button and tune in a station that is singing a similar song, namely that they are fat, ugly, hopeless, a failure, and so on."
So is it weight that needs the hard work this year, or is it more the mind? If we start with the mind, there is a good possibility that the weight problem will work out, as we learn to think better thoughts about our body. Our body, being the only one we have, perhaps does deserve a much better thought life for the coming year.
Though we have not finished Dr. Colbert's book, I highly recommend it. It is a new release and I predict it will be a best seller.
