Good Books
For The Seeker
The books listed here are not the ones everyone is talking about.. We miss beautiful jewels sometimes by looking for the latest best sellers. We leave behind books that were written in times past that have answers to our problems today. Check out some of my favorites below. Included are some newer releases as well.
The written word is powerful. It can bring hope, and help. It can build up or tear down. Choose wisely the authors who feed you.
"There are essentially two things that will make
us wiser: the books we read and the people we meet."
Charlie Jones, author, motivational speaker

Fascinating Womanhood

This book is the best of its kind in my opinion. Mrs. Andelin is
responsible for putting into print a book that answers many questions women
have not even known to ask. She makes it clear that femininity is not dead
and men continue to find it fascinating. This book, if taken serious, can
make your marraige everything you want it to be.
Simplify Your Life
by Elaine St. James
The sub title of this little book is, 100 Ways to Slow
Down and Enjoy the Things That Really Matter. What a gem! It is packed full
of common sense things that we know, but don't put into practice. It brings
to mind that clutter in our lives is exactly that. Our lives are made up of
the choices we make. This books gives suggestion of places we can limit and
free up areas in our lives in our home, lifestyle, our work, our health and
our finances. One suggestion is to, "Do nothing!" How long has it been
since you sat and felt perfectly at ease doing nothing? Ms. St. James has
put together good suggestions. Each of us has to pick the ones that apply
to us. She quotes Henry David Thoreau who said, "Simplify, simplify." A
good book!
The Language of Love

A Continual Feast
by Jan Karon (Author of the Mitford Years Series)
This book is hand written in journal form and is a fictictional
journal of Father Tim. In it are wonderful words to inspire and build up
and give you an "aha!" moment. Indeed what Lord Byron once said is brought
to remembrance in these pages,"A small drop of ink produces that which
makes thousands think." If this one doesn't make you smile or brighten your
day, you are in trouble.
The Invisible Woman
by Nicole Johnson
This story follows Charlotte Fisher through a period in her life where she
felt she was insignificant. She constantly led a life of caring for her husband
and family in the mundane things of life, the daily routine that didn’t seem to
matter. She lost her identity in the activities of daily living. The first
chapter tells of the sadness of her plight. Then the story really begins in
chapter II. Follow her as she realizes her true destiny in caring for those
close to her. A winner for sure. This book will help you see life from a
different prespective.
Happy Housewives
by Darla Shine
Mrs. Shine is a former television producer who worked with PBS and Newstalk.
Her choice of words in many parts of the book is much more colorful than I would
ever put in print. However, Mrs. Shine makes so many good points, there is no way I
could not recommend her book. She makes it clear that child rearing is a
once in a life time thing, a place in time that you don't get to go back
and redo. She makes it clear that she has never regretted giving up the
business world to do a bigger job, that of taking care of her family. She
says, "Take pride in the fact that you are a mother, ... that is the
biggest contribution to this world...." She also talks about the challenge
and rewards of being a happy housewife, her answer to Desperate Housewives,
which prompted her to write this book. Along with good advice, you will
find easy recipes and good websites to make taking care of the home easier.
Gone With The Grits
by Diane Pfihfer
This book is loaded with recipes you probably don't have in your current cookbook
library. And there's more than recipes in this one. Surprise your family all over
again with grits anew.
