For The Men
Counting The Cost

Though I am far from naive, I have been surprised at the statistics given on users of pornographic websites. Pornography is rampant within society. It is an epidemic that is damaging the lives of young people, destroying marriages, producing false views of sex and beauty, and degrading women. The pornography industry has increased rapidly, and its increased availability has weakened moral and public standards that have traditionally stood opposed to pornography. The combination of the weakening moral standard and the increased availability has caused its effects to become even more widespread, making proper teaching about pornography a necessity.

Utah State Prison inmate Gary Bishop, convicted of five known deaths of young boys, ages 5-13, gave this testimony: "I am a homosexual pedophile convicted of murder. Pornography was a determining factor in my downfall ... For me, pornography was like lighting a fuse on a stick of dynamite. I became stimulated and had to gratify my urges or explode."

In an interview with the nationally syndicated radio program, Focus on the Family, convicted serial killer Ted Bundy told Dr. James Dobson a similar story: "This is the message I want to get across - that as a young boy ... certainly I encountered in the local grocery store, in the local drug store, the porn that people call 'soft core.'"

As he grew older, Ted Bundy said his obsession drove him to mutilate and murder young women for sexual gratification. "In the beginning it fuels this kind of thought process. Then, at a certain time, it is instrumental, I would say crystallizing, making it into something that is almost like a separate entity inside, a building up of this destructive energy. You keep craving harder porn."

With all of the evidence that suggests that the homicidal thoughts of the most notorious serial killers of our day were fueled by pornography, it is baffling why porn is still widely available in our nation.

In True Sexual Morality, Daniel Heimbach thoroughly evaluates biblical standards for sexuality. Heimbach develops seven categories that biblical sex always fulfills. According to the Bible, sex should always be personal, exclusive, intimate, fruitful, selfless, complex, and complimentary13. According to Heimbach’s evaluation, these principles are God’s design for sex. However, pornography violates every single principle.
